About Me

My Background

This year marks our 45th as residents of Newbury for my wife Geraldine and me. It is our home. Here we have raised our four children (all proud graduates of the Newbury/Triton school system) and where we now enjoy our retirement. Before moving to Newbury in 1978, I served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (BSM). After the service, I attended Boston University, earning my MBA. For the following 39 years, I worked in General Electric's Aircraft Engine Group, which made commercial and military jet engines. I was responsible for a 45 member management team that supervised 350 machinists and skilled workers. Here I learned the importance of quality, diversity, inclusiveness, communication, and, most critically, the necessity for data-driven decisions. Today I spend my time advocating for veterans, the Council On Aging, and civic interests that benefit the town of Newbury.

Demonstrated Involvement

  • Volunteer/appointed as a Newbury Constable (April 2018 until May 2019)
  • Elected as a Newbury Constable on May 14, 2019 for a 4-year term.
  • Volunteered and appointed as the Newbury Veterans Grave Officer since 2020.
  • Collected and retired US flags in conjunction with the Boy Scouts since 2017.
  • Volunteered and was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Newbury Council on Aging.
  • Elected Chairperson of the Newbury COA Board of Directors in June 2022.
  • Attended 95% of the Select Board meetings and frequently contributed concerns or presentations.
  • Championed the national registration of Newbury as a “Purple Heart Town.”

  • On March 22, 2022 the Newbury Select Board signed the proclamation declaring that Newbury is a “ Purple Heart Town." I championed that effort and ordered the unique road signs that advertise that proclamation and participated in the committee that organized a ceremony on March 29, 2022 to mark National Vietnam War Veterans Day and declare Newbury a Purple Heart community.
  • In 2017, I volunteered to collect the flags from the designated mailbox and coordinated proper flag retirement ceremonies with Boy Scout Troop 44.
  • In 2020 I became the Veterans Grave Officer: ensuring graves were maintained to the required standards, coordinated flag replacement as well as Wreaths Across America with Troop 44.
  • Attended Veteran Services seminars to learn updated benefit changes to share with others.
  • Organized and hosted the first Newbury National Purple Heart Day Recognition Ceremony on the Upper Green on August 7, 2022.

  • There are 1,996 citizens who are older than 60 years living in Newbury; 925 citizens who are 55 to 59 years; and 1,041 citizens who are 45 to 54 years old.  12% of our seniors live alone.  This data shows that there is a current need for the social support, activities, and transportation that are required by our seniors, which were identified by them in their survey responses.
  •  As a member and then Chair of the COA Board of Directors, I compiled the survey responses – arranging the data in priority sequence. This data became extremely useful when we presented it to the Select Board when we articulated our space needs.
  • After more than 20 years, the COA relocated to a more spacious and inviting location at Kent Way with adequate parking.
  • The COA new transportation van will arrive in the Fall. This state-of-the-art safety-friendly van was purchased using grants and donations; not taxpayer funds.
